— ORIGIN O&O DOSSIER · EDITION 01

You pay a premium for specialty.

Can you prove it’s also traceable, fair, and sustainable?

us, coffee isn’t special unless it’s traceable, unless it’s fair to the people who grow it, unless it’s sustainable. Most supply chains can’t prove even one of the three — and neither can you, when your buyer finally asks.

— Traceability / Origin O&O

The question behind the label

A customer asks you: does this coffee actually help the farmer who grew it?

Your answer
You say yes. Of course.
You don’t actually know.

The cost of not knowing

That's the real cost of an opaque supply chain.

And it’s not one loss. It’s two.

It steals the truth.

You can’t verify where the coffee came from, who grew it, or whether the story on the label is real.

It steals your ability to do good.

You pay a premium specifically to create impact at origin. Without a way to verify the chain, you can’t know if that premium ever reached the farmer, or stopped at the third middleman who never set foot on a farm.

A premium only creates impact when you can actually follow it.

The Mechanism

We didn't build another origin story.

That’s exactly why we didn’t build another origin story. We built a door you can actually walk through: search the lot code, see the farm, the family, and the process directly. No digging through loose photos or questionable certificates: we hand you the full record — or come to Inzá and see it yourself. With 328 partner families now in the network, we can select for the exact quality profile a buyer requires, consistently, harvest after harvest.

— Our Certified Origin Program verifies each harvest across three dimensions. At the O&O Origin Hub, collaborative processing gives families control over their coffee, ensuring every difference is real and traceable.

— By removing unnecessary middle layers between the grower and the roastery, we build a direct and visible supply chain that connects named, GPS-tracked farms straight to export with full transparency and proof.

— From the Resguardo Indígena de Yaquivá in Tierradentro’s UNESCO territory to EUDR-ready polygon geolocation, every single lot connects exceptional coffee with a distinct origin, real people, and verified proof.

WHO'S BEHIND IT

In 2022, thirty coffee producers knocked on Samuel and Sofía’s door. No capital, no company — just the samples they’d been growing together for years, with nowhere left to sell them. The only move was to mix those samples into one offer and go looking for a buyer with nothing behind it but the coffee itself. That’s how La Orquídea y el Oso started. Not with a brand. With a knock on a door.

01 This is for you if:

— You’ve said «yes, of course» to a customer’s question about impact, and it bothered you that you didn’t actually know.

— You’ll pay more for a lot you can verify than less for one you can’t.

— You want your name on the country when a customer asks where it’s from — not «somewhere in Colombia.»

02 This isn’t for you if:

— You’re comfortable not knowing, as long as the cupping score checks out.

— Your buying decision starts and ends at price per pound.

— You prefer buying coffee wrapped in anonymous export tags rather than knowing the exact family and high-altitude farm that harvested it.

We wanted a method that could show buyers our journey. Now, every lot shares the true story behind our hard work.

Finca el Mirados - Tierradentro, Cauca Juan Quiguanás

We didn´t want to produce coffee just any way. We needed a process that allowed us to protect quality from harvest to final cup.

Finca La Esmeralda - Inzá, Cauca Emilia Chocué

Having a direct relationship with the people who buy our coffee changes the way we work. We can talk about the lot, the process, and what we need.

Finca el Roble - San Jose Julián Yatacué

Careful selection and sustainable practices allow us to bring out the unique notes of our region in every single harvest we produce.

Finca El Aguacate - Morales, Cauca Sofía Benavides

Altitude and dedication make all the difference. When you taste our coffee, you are tasting the hard work of an entire family.

Finca Bella Vista - Cajibío, Cauca Carlos Mejía

Innovation in processing has opened new doors for us, ensuring that specialty coffee remains our tradition and our future.

Finca San Isidro - El Tambo, Cauca María Elena Perafán

Next time a customer asks if this coffee helps the farmer, you won’t just say «yes.» You’ll have a name, a lot code, and proof.

P.S. — If you’ve said «yes» in the past without really knowing, that’s exactly what this was built to fix. Request samples and check it yourself.
